The awards, hosted by cable manufacturer Monster Cable, honors professionals in the consumer electronics industry. “As a company, Monster is passionate about music and the artists that make it possible. We are honored to have Ms. Blige deliver an evening of music we will never forget,” said Noel Lee, top executive at the company. Previous concerts have featured other musical legends such as like Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, B.B. King, Ray Charles, and James Brown. Blige will also perform on the "Movies Rock" special on airing on CBS December 7th at 9 p.m. Beyonce, Nelly, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson and John Legend are also scheduled to perform.
The hip-hop rumor mill has it that G-Unit star Young Buck was robbed at gunpoint over the holiday weekend. Mediatakeout.com says that the Tennessee-born rapper was relieved of his Bentley, diamond-studded necklace and watch at Nashville club The Palace. It's said that the thieves are looking to offload their ill-gotten gains to the highest bidder.
Black Enterprise goes to music stars for their next “Hot List” issue. For the first time in the magazine’s 37-year history, BE will release five consecutive covers that feature Queen Latifah, Chris Brown posing with Kirk Franklin, and Wyclef Jean with John Legend. The other two covers show sports stars Venus Williams and LeBron James. The “Hot List” honors “ultimate achievers” under the age of 40 in media, music, entertainment, sports, business and medicine.
Rapper/activist stic.man of dead prez is releasing his debut solo project, MANHOOD featuring his partner M1 as well as Khujo Goodie, Young Noble and vocalist Crystal Johnson. Production duties will be handled by Hi-Tek, Sol Messiah, and Jwells with stic also lending his beat-making skills. Using his own journey through manhood as the album's theme, stic.man balances soulful on “Black Girl Shine” and hardcore on “Do It Big” featuring Khujo Goodie. “Anything that we do is inspired by life, and being able to make songs to inspire others is truly a labor of love,” stic says.
